Have you ever looked at a gravestone? On it you will find the date a person was born - and the date that person died. In between is a dash. This small symbol signifies a persons whole existence. When it comes time for my dash to be chipped in, I want to know I lived a full and wondrous life.

Don't forget me!

Hi everyone,

Well, what a week I have had. I tried to sit down to write a post last night but had a little trouble. I couldn't seem to string a coherent sentence together AND I found myself nodding off at the keyboard lol. I have not been so tired in the longest time. I just thought I was busy up until this point!! So trying again today.

They don't call this course I'm doing intensive for no reason. HOLY COW! I have taken in so much information this week, written so many notes both my brain and hand have cramps! That said: so far so good. I seem to be doing okay... have passed all the daily assessments we take and have learned so much already.

I'm coping with very long days. Up at 6am (or earlier) catch a train to Perth, change stations and catch another to Carlisle. I usually get home around 5.30pm. On the plus side, I have met some great, great people - people from all walks of life and some of these are good people are from different countries that have settled here in Australia. I think sometimes they struggle with the comprehension side of things - but the fantastic thing about our group is, everyone is helping everyone. If someone has a problem understanding something, there's usually someone else that jumps in and helps them through it.

I have already made some firm new friends, in fact it happened really quickly. I found two women who live here in the same town where I live and as of day two, we now all catch the train up and back together.. so that's a huge help. Beats driving like I did that first day - it took me an hour and a half of traveling due to peak hour traffic.

So hows things on the band front? Well, I don't know if anyone checked my ticker but I have lost almost 2 kilos this week. Admittedly, the week before I had my fill I had gained a half kilo so the true loss is just over a kilo. But hey, for someone that was well and truly stuck in a plateau this is great news. It's been an interesting week, food wise. I, unlike many of you, haven't had the worry about packing a lunch until now, so I was a little clueless. First day, after some guidance about what shops were where, a bunch of us headed down to this little Japanese restaurant for lunch - and I came away with Terriaki chicken (sliced) and rice. Found the rice too sticky so asked for the salad that came with it to make up the majority of the meal (lots of crunchy lettuce and tomato) and that did the trick. No rice - more salad. On day three, I got busted eating really slowly and only managing half the small meal so I fessed up. The two girls I told were fab and as usual, there's always someone who knows about lapbanding and one of them told me her Uncle had it done three years ago and has lost 48 kilos in that time. Good going.

I have managed to catch up on a few blogs and even managed a comment or two. If I haven't commented on yours it's a time issue. I'm about to fly out the door to do a huge food shop (we have been limping along all week) and then have some major catching up to do around the house. It felt a little strange getting back here after a week. I can imagine, even after all my efforts to integrate myself that it might take a bit for you guys to remember I'm still around. But I am.......so don't give up on me, girls. Even if I'm not able to comment much in the weeks to come - I'm still here.. promise.. and as soon as things slow down, I'm jumping back in the fold. I have missed everyone so much, and have wondered how you are all doing. So.. this afternoon I will catch up on those posts I have missed.

Have a great weekend,
Chow

  2. I have wondered how you were doing. You sound like you are doing great!! It is wonderful to have people to travel to and from school with. I find it freeing to confess about my band. I am not sure what people say after I am gone but so far face to face everyone has been supportive of the thing.

woohooo on the weightloss. Being so busy is bound to help.

  6. Cara, we could NEVER forget you!! You are one of the blogger's that I feel the closest to! Fantastic on the weight loss! And I am so glad to hear that you are enjoying the class & the other students. Finding some other women that live near you to travel with is even better!!

I too have been AWOL in blog land! I have barely been able to read any blogs lately! I am hoping that I will be able to get back to full on blogging somewhere in the 1-3 month range. I'm just hoping that everyone doesn't forget me either!!

Have a great weekend & try to relax some too! Not just do housework & cook!

  10. Nope, you don't get rid of us that easily! Sounds like you're having a thoroughly stimulating time, and I reckon the distraction factor is what has made the weight loss better than usual - no time to think about your body or what you're going to eat next... what do you think? Sounds like this career change is going to be soo good for you all round!!

  11. Ditto, you can't get rid of us that easily. Great weight loss. It's hard to think about food when your brain is stuffed with knowledge. Have a great time learning all that stuff. Also thanks for your kind post on my blog. I hope to have the go for surgery on Monday and be in bandland soon.

  17. It is def. hard to adjust to eating out of the house when you haven't been doing it, but you will figure it out. Preparing a few things is helpful too - just some string cheese, yogurt, a banana, a bar, or a shake - I always take some, if not all, of these to work with me. If I don't eat them that day, they will always keep for another.
