Have you ever looked at a gravestone? On it you will find the date a person was born - and the date that person died. In between is a dash. This small symbol signifies a persons whole existence. When it comes time for my dash to be chipped in, I want to know I lived a full and wondrous life.

A bit of a ramble ...

Hey there,

Sorry I haven't blogged for the past week. To be honest I haven't had time to scratch myself and besides that, have also nothing much to write about. I'm holding steady on 75 kilos (165 pounds) .. neither going up nor down. My band is in a not too bad spot - though I've noticed my hunger levels going up a bit - some days I can't seem to stop thinking about eating (I think I'm battling head hunger here) and other times, my stomach is grumbling mightily by 9am whereas before I wasn't hungry before lunch time at all.

I am all but over my flu,too thankfully and thank you all so much for your wonderful get well wishes - I was so touched xxx. It was one rough week or so. I still have this annoying residual cough hanging around but other than that, my energy levels are back up. I'm starting to get back out and about though. I am going to a movie (Sex and the City 2 - I haven't seen the first one though lol so will take this one on its own merit) and Saturday I meet up with Emma from http://mysocalledlapbandlife.blogspot.com so I'm looking forward to that. We are catching up for lunch in Freo - just us two girls sans the guys this time. And I had a nice surprise yesterday too. Sally from http://myspats.blogspot.com sent me a book I wanted to read. I had completely forgotten she was sending it to me and when I opened it was stoked to see it had reached me. Thanks again, Sal. You're a darling.

I have put in some pics. The first two are of one of my talented sons drawings. He did this first one on his arm that I thought was really cool so I took a pic and wanted you guys to see it. The other (and this is for you Tina, since you love gardening and all it entails) is of this weird cactus we have out front. It's flowered and the flower is ginormous! Really huge. I can't get over the size of this thing.

Cool snake wrapped around a dagger of wood
This drawing wasn't quite finished when I took the shot - but you get the idea. He drew it from memory - an alien from Alien.
The mad cactus out front. This flower stalk has been growing for about a month. Now bare in mind the fronds on the cactus are at my hip height and the stalk towers over me - it must be 8 foot high and is almost ready to burst into flower.

Sorry this was a boring post. As I said: not much going on. Hope you're all going well. I really must catch up with your blogs. I'm missing you all.
Till next time
Cara xxx

  1. I feel for you having to do housework - I'm no good at even doing my own, and toilets too.... Hope things improve for you.

  2. Your son is quite the artist!

My mom is a caregiver too and does a fair amount of housekeeping as well as personal assitance. I know it has taken her awhile to find the right clients for her. She has gone to several homes where she hated it and didn't mesh with the people or duties expected of her. Now she takes care of one old lady who has a housekeeper so pretty much she helps with meal prep, personal hygeine, etc.

  8. Not at all boring miss Dashy. You know, I used to be in a similar line of work as an occupational therapist, I couldn't believe I got a master's degree and was spending 9/10th's of my time taking folks to and from the bathroom in the hospital.
But then I realized that this is what helping is all about-- I was doing a tremendous helping service. Your housecleaning as part of your caring duties is that too-- these folks can't do for themselves, and so you are adding light and help to your life through the tidying. I think that if you were to reconsider that you are really doing what you were trained to do, in that you are there as a trained carer and that you are making sure things are tidy and in order for your clients so they don't trip/ fall/ get sick from dirt and grime-- perhaps you would feel more rewarded?
The other great thing: cleaning burns calories and you are getting PAID to do it.
Chin up my sweet. You are doing great and you are a skinny b*tch too!!!
    Hope this was helpful...

  9. Cara - Sorry I'm late on this one. I know it must suck to be doing all that clean instead of helping (which I know you are a natural at)keep asking for more challenging assignments.
I'm thinking I need a little fill too. I just made an appointment.
    Stay strong sweets!

  11. If that's not much going on for you... heaven help me... you've got more energy than I could even dream of...

I'm so happy to hear you're feeling better, and I really hope your employer listens to you and doesn't let your talent go to waste. It would be a shame for everyone involved.
