Hello my lovlies......
Well I'm back and safe and sound. We had a most wonderous time. Did our own thing - lots of miles in the camper - lots of yum food - just a whole heap of fun in the ........rain.... yep, not the sun, the rain. Guess that was the only downer about Tassie. We had a couple of days of semi-sunshine (that's the one where it pokes it's head out of the clouds then gets shy and nicks off again!!!) Still, the weather did nothing to damnpen MOTH's (Man of the House) and my enthusiasm for our travels.
While I was away I wrote a journal keeping tabs on what we did, where we went and how we went about it. For both my benefit and yours. I wanted to remember what the trip was like for our future (in case I want to get melancholy lol) and also because I figured, rather than try to explain it all on here, you have a place to go and find out how it went complete with pictures. I haven't finished the blog page yet but I will have by tomorrow. So if you are interested in reading about how the holiday went, just zip off to coastingtasmania.blogspot.com and it's all there before you... (complete with a few oops moments lol. I was getting tired and the damn thing was taking forever to get down. So just ignore those and read on :) haha)
One thing we did do in Tassie that I want to mention, mostly because it has to do with us (blogging buddies!!) is I met Nola and her wonderful husband Rick. It was like the coolest thing ever to meet her (and him). She's exactly as I imagined her (though even prettier in real life I think.. beautiful skin and kick-ass personality.) She's laid back and well........ I just can't say enough about her. Her and Rick took us into their house (and let's face it... apart from meeting me on here, she really didn't know us from a bar of soap!) they fed us, let us sleep in the most amazingly comfortable bed (which after sleeping on a three inch camper van mattress... trust me.. it was like heaven on a stick!!) and ran around after us. Just a fab couple (made even that bit better by the fact MOTH and her husband Rick got on like a house on fire.) It was a bit sad when we had to leave - if we were staying longer I could see us all becoming firm friends. A shout out to her gorgeous doggies, Harry and Scarlett too. I kind of fell in love with those little pooches! You can read more about Nola and our meeting on the coastingtasmania.blogspot.com site. She has a wicked sense of humor lol.
So, how did I go with my band in good ol' Tassie. Hmmm, now there's a loaded question. For the most part it was just fine. Flying was zero problem for me. It had been something like 17 years since I had last stepped on a plane and I was frantic with excitement when we finally boarded. The food was fine (I just picked around the meal and ate band-friendly stuff) and I was no worse for wear. There were a couple of times during the time away (which I omitted from my Tasmania blog - because that was about the holiday, not my band) when I was in a icky moment. But for the most part all A-OK.
I do remember one incident which was by far the worst and I tried to think back about what I did that brought it on. I think it was the sausage.... yeah, def the sausauge. Something I was told NOT to eat ... so what do I do? I try it and with dire consequenses. MOTH and I went to Cradle Mountain and the rain was coming down in buckets so instead of doing the trail walk we decided instead to have lunch in the Chateau. Lovely place with a large dining room and open fire. Just what the doctor ordered on a cold, wet, windy day. Anyway, I still haven't quite got the hang of this whole... 'must order an entree size no matter how hungry I am... because really.... it's all I can eat' ...thing. So what does this piggy here do. Just ordered a normal sized meal. I had some toasted squares of bread with dips - went down just fine... then tried to eat my own meal... which was also fine (so far!!!) because I was very aware of my band and I was taking little teeny bites and chewing like a maniac. My STOP button must have been off that day.... cos MOTH and I changed plates to try each others. He had this fancy Bangers and Mash (you know the kind.. Bush Sausage with herbs or something, and mash with caramalised onions... incredibly yum!!) So I cut the sausage into eraser size pieces and chewed and managed about a half a one. KABAM! I feel it sitting in my throat... so off I walk (REAAAAAAAALLLLLLY FAST!!!!) to the loo... hack, cough, spit, more spitting ... well, you get the picture.. and then for the next two bloody hours I was in misery. I went through almost a box of tissues, had to get MOTH to pull over a few time to the side of the road and was in tears by it all. Literally... wailing internally .. what the F**K did I do!!! What a dick!.. Stupid... can't believe I did that lol. Finally, we stopped got a small bottle of coke.. a few painful swigs of that.. and suddenly... ahhhh, heaven. I almost felt normal again. I think though I made things a little swollen in the tum department as I tried toast for breakfast the next morning.. and no go! So liquids and light foods it was for me for 24 hours. I had a very similar but not as bad experience about four days later. This time I got the stop signal and it wasn't so crazy, but it sure could have been.
So, all in all, I think I'm pretty close to that sweet spot lol. I can go hours and hours without eating.. (or at least could over there.. it's JUST starting to come to me now that the time is lessening a little between meals) and I get stuck/and or pain if I eat too fast or don't chew. All signs Portia is pulling her weight. Oh... and the best bit girls........ I never put ANY weight on. Not a thing. In fact, I lost a little. I weighed myself at Nola's and it said I had lost a half a kilo (but you know, different scales and that) so I tried again here when I got home, and I had lost about 200 grams. And trust me.. I did not hold back on the food. I ate so much shit it was coming out of my ears lol. So all in all, I'm a happy little vegemite.
I have managed to almost catch up on everyones blogs since I've been gone. Still have more reading to do though. I missed you all... and wondered what you were up to.. so now I will have to go find out.... or at least I will when I finish writing this travel blog... blah.. just want it done now lol. So good to be back!
I'm sure I will think of some other things to say, but right now.. I'm a little brain dead and too much going on the old head.. so will leave it for another post. I will post some pics of our stay over the next few days.. and if you visit my travel one.. can you drop me a line just to let me know you were there. It would be nice to know some of my blog buds read it... or maybe fell asleep reading it! lol.
See you again (real) soon
