Hey there, guys-n-girls
First up a huge thanks for the lovely messages everyone left me about my vlog. I had so much I wanted to say but there's not much you can put in, in just a few minutes. I was very aware of keeping it short after some good natured heckling from last time when I did a five minute plus one lol. As I touched on in the vlog the reason I did it a few weeks before Christmas was that the kids go on school holidays as of next Wednesday (the Christmas break) for seven weeks and I won't have a chance in heck of getting it done when they are finally in holiday mode. The noise, the mess, the organisation involved getting them from one place to another.. ahhh, gee... pity me! I also wanted to add was that this one was directed at girls AND guys. I received a gentle admonishment from one lovely man after my first vlog that guys are reading my blog too (which I honestly didn't realise) and then promptly forgot to say hi to them until the end with the Merry Christmas. So sorry about that. Won't happen again, promise. Must....scope......wider......Oh, and did anyone notice how thin my hair is on the left side of my head in the video.....? Big fat sigh... I hadn't picked up on it until I posted it and then went.. WTF.. it doesn't look that bad in real life but for some reason, it did on the video and if you noticed - and I'm sure you did - you were just being polite and not pointing it out. I hope it grows back soon - I couldn't handle the wispy look forever.
I was also asked if I finally managed to get the boys presents sorted: I did.. and thanks to all the girls who gave me suggestions... I truly was stuck. We got Mitchell something for his computer (but he has to kick in as it's very expensive) and there's the usual aftershave and shaving stuff (he always needs this) and other assorted motley things. Mason ended up with some well needed summer clothes - boardies, t-shirts, beach towel, aftershave, a box set of the complete Futurama episodes from television and I found this book ... 'How do you light a fart?.. and 150 Other Essential Things Every Guy Should Know About Science'... just made for a 16 year old Rambo wannabe who would love to know why Hollywood cars always burst into flames after hitting the bottom of a cliff or why do men NEVER want to ask directions.. and of course .. why do my farts smell? Jake ended up with a lightweight scooter (he's always knocking off Riley's and foregoing his own sturdier one) when he wants to do stunts etc ... and he just got other smaller stuff too including a great watch with a compass (he loves to go walking in the bush.) Riley was easy - toys, toys and more toys including Eyeclops Night Vision Goggles. I can foresee a bit of patching up of his forehead as he walks into things in the night lol.
This band of mine is being a Little Miss! Not hit and miss (though it's surely doing that too) but A Little Miss!! Spoilt brat comes to mind. One day she's tight as a fishes doodah and others, almost anything goes down. Last night I cooked a roast chicken. Those who have so far been reading my blog know that I am without an oven right now. I'm holding out for one of those big freestanding stainless steel ones with the 6 burners on top but since they range in the thousands of dollars I have been making do. I have my microwave and stove and that's usually enough to bang out a decent meal. Well, (here we go Debi - this one's for you - in regards to your last post and how men can really frustrate us lol) MOTH (Man of the House) talked to me about getting a little pizza/oven - a great little microwave sized oven you can bake, grill, toast and do pizzas in. Here's the catch. With a family as big as ours we need space aka a normal sized oven - and these little suckers don't quite measure up. So what's he do while I'm busy out and about yesterday? He goes to the store and buys two!! I wanted to be there when we got them to do the whole measuring thing (especially to see if my Xmas turkey was going to fit in, which by the way it won't - I have to use the turkey rolls now.) In a mans world it makes sense to have two but now my kitchen bench is being taken up by these space age stainless steel cookers that are very fly weight.
So now I have my new 'ovens' .. ha! I get all eager and cook a whole chicken in it..going the whole hog with the roast vegetables etc but do you think I could eat it? I sat down, really looking forward to the soft chicken and gravy and two or three bites in I'm like.. what the?? This is NOT going down. For some reason yesterday I ate very little - I just wasn't hungry and that's a good right? It certainly was for me this morning. I jumped on those scales and it showed me how good I have been this past week.. yayy ... I was 600 grams down.. and right now.. I'm sitting on just 13.5 kilos left to lose. LOVE IT!!!!!! Here's something else, too. For me.. the weekly weigh in just doesn't work. I'm sporadic with my weight loss so I just take it as it comes. If it takes 8 or 9 days to drop significantly, then it takes 8 or 9, but sometimes I have two drops in a week. I refuse to get hung up on the time frame. It is what it is, and worrying about it won't change it. That much I know by now.

That said lol, I really wanted to be down to 80's kilos (well, in my mind!!) by Christmas.. That isn't going to happen but somehow, honestly, I'm not in the least disappointed. The weight these past few months has come off, slow for sure, but the main thing is...it's coming off! I'm stoked about that as a whole. 80 kilos for some reason for me was my BIG goal and the six + kilos left to lose under that is incidental - I will get there in my own good time. I think I wanted it because I remember when my sister was a bigger girl - she lost a bunch of weight, maintained at 80 and she was wearing size 14's and looked great in EVERYTHING!! Didn't matter what she put on, she just looked fab and I want that too (though I feel like I'm doing bloody well too.. 80 or not!) Right now I'm sitting on 86.8 (which coincidentally is exactly the same as Angie of "I am in repair - Angie's Banding Blog" She also weighed in with that number today and converting it for you, it's 190.9 pounds. Her and I seem to lose about the same weight each week and we have been at a similar weight on the scales for quite some time with just a pound or two separating us.. and then bang.. this morning.. identical.. lol I was like.. no way!! Too cool.
One thing I have noticed about this weight loss is this. Last summer I sweated... all the time. I was hot (but not in a sexy good way lol). When you are bigger you feel the heat more. The summer here is trundling along doing it's summery thing, and yet I am doing much much better than last year. I am not sweating AT ALL (unless I go for a walk but thats exercise, right?) and I have noticed a couple of blogs from the past few days saying that now it's winter in the U.S. you girls are noticing the cold more. As I dropped the weight and just coming out of winter here now I must say also I was cold - all the time - extra jumper cold - and yet, we don't have anywhere near the winter weather you guys do with your snow etc. I whinge when it gets as low as 17 degrees celcius lol. Next winter I will notice the difference even more I imagine.
Before I go I just wanted to tell you of a funny post from Lap-band Gal I read this afternoon. She did a post 'How much weight have you lost' and comparing it to different objects - a two year old, a giant trout etc etc... Catherine did something similar a lot of months ago. Well, according to the list - I have almost lost.......'An elephants Penis'.... the mind boggles lol. Who knew?
Be good, stay safe,
Until next time

Congrats on the loss Cara! I totally understand the restriction one day, then its gone for a few days. Its usually back when you do want to eat! I can't believe your MOTH bought 2 ovens - Oh my Gosh!! Hold out for what you really want!!! P.S. I haven't said it yet, but I love the new look of your blog!
ReplyDeleteYou are doing so great! I love reading your blog for inspiration. Sorry things didn't go down well yesterday, but YAH for not being hungry, right? (I can't wait until I am there!)
ReplyDeleteI, too, am always hot, and am really looking forward to enjoying next summer without sweating 24/7.
Amy
LMAO!! An elephant's penis! That cracked me up. I must say...I was thinking "what a nice post" then BAM! elephant's nether-regions. LOVE IT! Congrats on the losing on the scale and getting your boys bought for.
ReplyDeleteOMG totally laughed at this post! First, the book about lighting farts: sadly enough, I may have to get this one for my DH. He is of the juvenile sense of humor persuasion, and this sounds right up his alley (so to speak).
ReplyDeleteThen, the Elephant's penis - no way! LOL.
You are getting so skinny Mama! I need to lose 11 pounds to catch up to you and Angie! That is so great, the band is WORKING!!!
Now I need to see your vlog - after I get the kids off to school....
Sweet Cara, I've been a bit MIA from reading, no reason except busy! Have a lovely 4 day weekend in store for myself and I'm looking forward to checking back on blogs. This one is such a hoot, fishes hooha? and elephant penis...I'm cracking up! So glad the christmas shopping is finished, I'm one of those who actually LIKES shopping for last minute things on christmas eve, but I normally do the stocking things then, it's my tradition! Have a lovely weekend, and I'll do the same! Love the look of the blog too and how you and Portia are in it together!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to find stuff for your boys, it sounds like they are going to have a wonderful Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI love that MOTH bought two ovens...without you even being there. I swear, I really wonder what goes through their minds when they do things like that. It's pretty dang funny for us to read...probably not so funny for you to deal with!
Ha Elephants penis...love it. Give that answer to everyone that says how great you look, " Why thank you, I have lost an elephanst penis " Ha
ReplyDeleteI am in such a giddy mood today for some reason.
Glad you got the christmas pressies sorted, I need to get a move on
Men? and they think we are hard to figure out!
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty funny, two? Two ovens?
Elephant penis! I've lost a small bale of hay...
Loved your vlog! I am going to try one soon if I can figure out how.
Glad you are friends with the scale again :)
Thanks for the shout out Cara!! Congrats on the additional weight loss. I'm lucky I guess, I had a girl so I never had to worry about boy toys.
ReplyDeleteNow, if I DH had gone shopping, he would look at things more like we would since HE is the cook in our family. He would have made sure that the oven would fit a turkey!! But he also may have bought two just to be able to do more at the same time!! LOL
As far as how much weight I have lost, I am right between an average 2 yr old & the amount of cheese that an average American eats in a year!!
Now I too seem to be noticing that I am colder than usual. So I have high hopes that by Summer, I won't feel the heat so much!!
Happy Holidays
Better you than the elephant! :) Love the book! Am going to check that out for my nephew.
ReplyDeleteLOL, first of all I didnt know you vlogged again! How did I miss it? I will go and find it! Second, I loved your long vlog and only teased you bc I was jealous of your wisdom and the fact I cant my long vlogs to upload! I am glad you scale is your friend again, and I am in the same situation as you with my band being tight and then not tight.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Loved your post. Funny about the elephant. I am glad you made up with the scale...it will have many more good times for you so you should really be friends.

ReplyDeleteGlad you and the scale are buddies again. What to say about the two ovens- you sound like a more patient woman that I am.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kinds words on my blog- I had a lot of nice messages this morning when I woke up and got a little weepy.
I have just finished reading your blog from woe to go....such inspiration. Thanks for sharing your story. I can so relate to the feeling hot...can't wait to be lighter and feel a bit cooler
ReplyDeleteGB
Men...Mine bought a knife rack a couple of months ago even though we, not a month before, discussed and decided that we did not want any more crap on the counter. arghghg i blew a gasket. Now since you have the two small ovens you could make your husband cut the turkey in half before cooking. It would fit then wouldn't it?
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of lsoing an elephant penis..will have to go look at what I have lost..Tina
Tina
Dang....I have lost a large newborn calf or a very small 2 month old horse (I am between the two in weight loss!)...cool thing.
ReplyDeleteTina
Good on ya' on the loss! You're doing fabulously well... Vanessa
ReplyDeleteHi Cara,
ReplyDeleteOnly just caught up on all the blogs and your vlog....you are doing brilliantly and it doesn't matter how fast or slow it comes off it is coming off and staying that way! As for the ovens...do you have a webber BBQ with charcoal? If so it does the best baked turkey (and pork) for Xmas....we don't do it any other way! Must dash (no pun intended LOL)...have a great week...
PS LMAO over the elephant penis weight....um who has weighed a elephant penis for comparison?
