Okay first up is Sally's address. She's okayed me giving it up so for anyone interested in reading a new blog from a newly banded girl this is it.... http://myspats.blogspot.com/
I woke up this morning and when I went to the bathroom I could smell smoke. A heavy pall has settled over our city. It seems overnight we have had (or still have) a huge bushfire somewhere nearby. The news is telling us it's from 'somewhere down south' but WE are down south. This is the scary part of hot summers and living here in Western Australia which is still fairly forresty. It can be a quite worrying. I went outside at 7am and there was a massively heavy smell in the air (it's in the house too, like someone lit up fifty cigs at once), it's foggy with smoke and the sun is covered by smog making it blurry and a freaky orange colour. My car is also covered by ash.. tons of it. Shit! I am on the lookout now to where the actual fire is. It's probably miles away but I don't know, this feels a bit close for comfort. Will report back when I know more.
On a better note I had another loss this morning. I am SO loving this band right now - even more than usual I have to say. I thought I might have gone up a little or perhaps even stayed the same due to some unheralded snacking on crap food over the last 24 hours but I still managed almost a half kilo again in just two days. I can actually see the end goal in sight now and it's kind of spinning me out! I still have two stone to lose but the thing is.. well, it's ONLY two stone. Compared to when I started it honestly seems very doable. I'm doing the happy dance right now.
There is one downside though and I touched on it the other day. My hair. I have always loved my hair: it was as my mother and a lot of other people told me, my crowning glory. Well, it doesn't feel that way now. My hair is dry and lifeless and feels very thin right now. As I sit here writing this I have an oil treatment in, my head is covered in clingwrap (good look, lol not!!) and a towel is over that, wrapped turban style. I am trying to replace some moisture. I am losing it by the tonnes and it's kind of freaking me out a little. Rogain anyone? My hairdressers over the year always told me.. you have fine hair but there's a lot of it. And I have a lot of natural curl. Now if I scrunch it into a pony tail, that lackey band has to go round a couple of times more just to contain what little there is. Ideas anyone? I know this is something most of us suffer with, this hair loss due to having the band, but this is just too depressing for words.
Hope you all have a good day.
Be good, stay thin and speak soon.

I have been afraid of this happening to me. My hair is one of my best features - well in my opinion! I had mentioned this concern at brunch yesterday with the NYC girls and Catherine suggest Biotin...
ReplyDeleteI happen to work for a certain govt dept who deals with bushfires so can give you some info. There's a fire in Harvey moving north. They should have it under control today but due to the winds, the smoke will probably continue till tomorrow. (very smokey here too!). There's also another fire in Walpole too. At this stage no danger to property or persons.
ReplyDeleteHair loss seems to be a common issue with bandits. I'm lucky in that I have so much hair you can't even notice when I lose some! But my hair loss did stop after about 6months. Make sure you take your vitamins and if it still continues talk to your doc.
Congrats on the loss too - awesomesauce!
Em :)
I am with you, Cara! I'm afraid mine is going to get worse what with my new restriction (and intake). It was pretty bad before already.
ReplyDeleteScary about the fire, hopefully it stays far away from your (and other's) house. I'm not looking forward to the hair loss thing, so if you find something that works let us know. Maybe if I tackle it before it becomes an issue I can avoid some hair loss.
ReplyDeleteI have had the hair loss and you just have to ride it out. Now I have all this annoying regrowth but I suppose at least it is coming back.
ReplyDeleteI found the more I focused on it the thinner it looked to me - but noone really noticed that much.
I totally relate with the hair!!I've always had good hair and skin - it's depressing to brush my hair now.I guess we have to focus on our improving assests.
ReplyDeleteI try to remember it will come back. My best friend has bypass and lost a lot hair. It's back now, so it does improve.
Scary about the fires - I hope they are controlled.
Enjoy that restriction !!

My hair was never my best asset to begin with & it has always been very thin & baby fine. So I am dreading the loss of what little I have!! The only comforting thing about it is that it is supposed to grow back!!
ReplyDeleteFantastic note on the continued weight loss & restriction.
Keeping good thoughts that your area stays clear of the fires.
Happy Holidays
Cara-- I'm sorry to hear about the hair, though the weight loss part is great.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure about the biotin thing, but check on Catherine's blog (I recall she wrote about it too as stated above.)
Also: perhaps talk to the nutritionist? Are you getting enough fat and protein? I think those are the keys to healthy hair. Perhaps people lose hair b/c of quick weight loss???? I don't understand this symptom, but I feel for you and hope to avoid it myself.
Be sure to check the FAT and PROTEIN as I said, as I am pretty sure these are things that promote hair growth-- but I'm no hair doc either.
Kisses and hugs-- Vanessa
Cara great news that the scale is your friend and restriction is back. Sucks about the hair I know but have nothing to add to what the ladies said above
ReplyDeleteYikes on the fire situation.
ReplyDeleteI've got nothing on the hair issue...I will say mine is coming around. It shed heavy for a good month and then stopped. Now I have all these sprouts (in silver, ugggh)
I hope everything goes OK with the fires... I'm so glad restriction is back on your side and you and scales are getting along. We're doing OK, but definitely not more than friends these days haha. I got nothing on the hair - mine's always been super thin, but luckily hasn't gotten mroe so.xoxox
ReplyDeleteCara, I hope that the fires stay away from your area! I will be singing the B-52s song, Bushfire, in your honor all day today! (Hard to get it out of head once started!) :)
ReplyDeleteOn the hair loss front, my taking Biotin either really helped, or it coincided with my body's natural stop to the hair loss. Either way, it's worth checking out.
You can buy it in capsule form (powder in a capsule), snip the capsule, dump the powder into water and drink it. The powder is basically flavorless, so it's not particularly unpleasant. I hope this helps!
xoxoxo,
Catherine
We get those kinds of fires here in AZ too so I feel your pain on that one. Please keep us posted on that situation. Great results on the losses though!
ReplyDeleteWe are so much alike! I too have very fine hair but alot of it and it's naturally curly but I straighten it (we all want what we don't have LOL) I have noticed mine thinning and, in fact, I have all this crazy hair sticking up all over my head right now. I'm assuming that's some regrowth but not sure. Maybe my hair is breaking! At any rate, it makes me sad =( Hope we both don't go bald LOL
