Have you ever looked at a gravestone? On it you will find the date a person was born - and the date that person died. In between is a dash. This small symbol signifies a persons whole existence. When it comes time for my dash to be chipped in, I want to know I lived a full and wondrous life.

Chocolate death...........

Good thing this moniker doesn't apply to me... especially after the day I had yesterday. Hoi! I think I must have eaten my body weight in crap food.

I know I'm pre-menstrual. It's the only explanation I can think of. Over the last few months (since banded) I have NOT had one chocolate attack. I used to love my chocolate... lived and breathed chocolate and suddenly I lost the taste for it. It just didn't interest me any more.

Not so yesterday. MIL (mother in law) bought boxes and boxes of these amazing German and Swedish chocolates home. Ones that are filled with berry liquors and fat round sweet cherries. I went to town. I was too scared to get on the scales this morning - but that said, my jeans don't feel any tighter (THANK GOD!!!) and my I can still suck my stomach in so maybe the damage was minimal due to it just being one day. Well, I can talk myself into anything if I try hard enough lol.

I can finally let you know about that news I mentioned several posts ago. MOTH (Man of the House) and I are off to Tasmania for 10 or 12 days on a fact finding mission. I hesitated to say anything much about it before as I hadn't been able to nail a date down to actually organise to go away. We were waiting on MIL to get back from Europe to ask if she can look after the kids while we are gone. Thankfully she said yes. She never ever says no though when we ask probably due to the fact we don't abuse the system. It's rare that we ask but this is a bigger than before. The most she's held down the fort before was for a few days as MOTH and I slipped away to Perth for a few days recharge.

Mason my second son was a little edgy about it. Mum, do you think Oma (Grandmother in German) will be able to cope.. I mean I have my diabetes and well, she's not too young any more? MOTH and I laughed. Right. This not so young OMA just jetted off BY HERSELF for 10 weeks, travelled Europe BY HERSELF and walks and bikes for miles and miles BY HERSELF. I think she's up to the task. As for your diabetes.... well in the 13 years you've had it, you've had maybe a half dozen bad experiences. What are the chances something will happen while we are away, especially now you are older and much more aware of how to look after it and yourself? Besides she only has three of you to run around after this time since Mitchell will probably be somewhere in Spain by then. I raised an eyebrow at him (very Jim Carrey like) and he conceded. Problem solved.

Anyway, about Tassie.... and our fact finding mission. I have had itchy feet for ... well, like forever. Western Australia is the only part of this big country of ours I have ever lived. I've travelled and seen a bit of it, even stayed in a few other places (way up north for a few years, way down south for a few more) but have not strayed from living away from Perth for the past 20 + years. Till now. When I was looking for places to uproot our family (sigh.. there's a downside but needs to be done) I focused on either Queensland (the sunny state) or Tasmania (possibly the most beautiful state in Australia bar none.) I've never actually been to either but having lived in Australia for 43 years now I have a broad idea on both. Tassie very much appeals because we are looking for a tree change. We want acreage.. something both MOTH and I have coveted for like forever. Now it looks like it might actually happen especially since I have researched the place till my eyes burn (from looking at the computer) and my retinas are about to detach. Things have all fallen into place - the dominos are all stacked in our favor (how's that for a couple of cliche's) and we are on the move. So........ come the end of September MOTH and I fly over for almost two weeks while we do a massive amount of exploring and decide exactly where it is we want to settle. We are thinking around Huonville or Glen Huon for now (for the record, Tassie has the most beautiful names for town there. These are just two.) Oh and a HUGE bonus... we are going to meet Nola http://abbfab.wordpress.com and her fab hubby Rick - while we are there. At least we will have two friends when we get over there. I cannot wait!! So that's my news. It's scary and yet.......somehow I cannot wait. I wish we could leave to live there tomorrow. (We are also going to see if MIL wants to come with us. Something we have to nut out with her over the coming weeks. We hate the thought of leaving her alone on that big farm down south. MOTH and I hope she will stay with us - at least for a few years until her other sons and families get back from America. We will see.)

I got a lovely message this morning from a young girl here in Australia (I don't know her name lol.) She is just 18 and is going in next month to be banded. I just wanted to say a HUGE hi to her and to let you girls know of her existence so perhaps you can swing by and check out her blog (it's very new) and maybe drop her a message. This is her site below. Thanks xxx

From me to you, I'm outta here.
Chow for now

  1. How exciting, Cara! I love it that you and MOTH are heading to Tazmania for a fact finding mission! It sounds very glamorous and fun -- and OMA sounds like a dynamo. I can't wait to hear about your trip and see photos!

  2. Cara - Tasmania sounds so exotic and romantic- I'm slightly jealous. I'm really impressed that you're thinking of making a change, it's so easy to get stuck in a rut, but not many people do anything about it. I'm sure the chocolates won't have a lasting effect. :)

  3. I would love to see Tasmania and Queensland. I think you guys are doing a great thing.

Question: do you think you would have considered really following through with a move of this magnitude pre-band?

Oh, and I'm glad I made you laugh with my comment. Sadly, it's all too true :-)

  6. That is totally exciting. I grew up in Kansas, and after college I went and got some maps of the US and picked Pensacola, FL. I had never been here, but I moved here all by myself! I loved moving somewhere new. Everything was like an exciting hunt! And I found Tracey...awwww....

I would love to up and move again to some random place, but Tracey is more rooted than I...but I will wittle him down.

    have fun!

  7. Cara - how cool! Someday, someday, we're going to get down to your hemisphere... I've always been intrigued by Tasmania (Australia as a whole too, but somehow Tasmania just seems so cool)... At any rate, keep us posted! Sounds like a wonderful trip.
