First up some band news. As you all know, I saw the doc yesterday to get a fill.. hurrah!! It was actually pretty good to see 'The International Man of Mystery' Doc Couch again as it had been a while. We sat and chatted about how my band was going.. and I told him all the ins and outs of my painful last week few weeks - well, the edited version, anyway. Didn't want to put the man to sleep.
I ended up getting .3 of a ml. It doesn't sound much, does it? (even one little ml sounds measly to me...) But for those newly banded, let me tell you it can be the difference between night and day! His reasoning for such a little amount is he feels, though I've been hungry, I am nearing my sweet spot. Say what? I can't say I agree with that - but since he's the one who knows more than me about levels in the band what he says goes.. within reason of course! I did query how it could be he felt I was almost there though. He seemed to think A. though I'm super hungry it's fixable with just a tweak of fill... B. I have no reflux and/or very little PB'ing - both of which he wants to keep that way, and C. I now have 7.2 mls (cc's) in my 10 ml band (I thought I had maybe 5 and a bit lol) so hence I'm nearing what must be that green zone.
I also asked him about my port, mentioning to him I thought I had done something to it as it had been sore over Christmas. His answer to that was... it's because you've lost weight. Oh? Apparently because there's less fat there, the port can be felt so much easier than before and the underlying muscle is presenting it differently. It may tilt a little up or down or move position slightly but its rock solid and not going anywhere. It was just the muscle that I had overexerted. So that was good news. He also mentioned.. if I was still ravenous after this fill, come back and see him next week and he will give me a little more.
So where am I this morning after the fill? This is for you Dee because you specifically asked :).... I woke up HUNGRY.. grrr.. but had a coffee and since I had to be out of the house for an appointment (more on that in a sec) by 8.45am I forgoed eating. By 10am my stomach was grumbling big time. What is different though is I only had a tiny piece of bacon and four teaspoons of my greek yoghurt before I felt super full. Its now 1.35pm and I'm just starting to get hungry again. So the fill has definitely worked. I think I might need a teeny touch more to kill the hunger factor once and for all. I plan on giving it a few days more and if it's still there, I'm back to the office quick smart.
Now for other news. When our lives move, they tend to move like a super-sonic bullet. This has happened to me in the last few days. I went into Community First this morning to check about the availability of funding to help me train for the course I want to do (this was my early morning appointment) and it seems we are all A-Ok there. I emailed my resume into the woman I had the appointment with when I got home: and she in turn faxed off all the the paperwork - my letter of referral from her re: the funding and my enrollment form to Fast Track - Success (this is the training organisation I was hoping to get into.) Anyway, long story short, a few phone calls between me and success later to try and get our ducks in a row and I'm in!!!!! WHOOOO!!!
I start training on the 2nd of February. I now have a place - and I can't wait to start baby. But wait.. there's more (and no, you don't get free steak knives! Ha!!) A friend of Masons, a kid called Mark, stayed the night last night. When I went in to tell the kids that I had secured a place to train for the Cert III, Mark said: Oh, my mother does that kind of work. One thing led to another and I ended up having this big long chat with his lovely mum, Leanne, who I had met quite a few times but on a very casual, "Hi, how're you doing?" basis as we ferry our kids to one anothers places.
Again, long story short, she mentioned her workplace is always looking for new people. Would I be interested coming to work for them because they are always looking for new blood... as a matter of fact they are recruiting in just a few weeks time? Did I like the idea of studying AS I worked and that way, be earning money meanwhile?
HOLY MACKERAL!!!!
I quizzed her about everything and she patiently answered my questions. The kind of work she does is home visits. Her time is her own, she works different hours, nothing is the same. Apparantely her workplace is always chasing people who are hands on. A lot of people don't mind the cooking/cleaning/shopping for the client (aka elderly or disabled person) but don't much like the hands on side of things. Working with hoists, getting them in and out of the shower/toilet .. being a listener etc etc. Those kinds are being highly sort after. She seemed to think I was very keen (True!) and that I would be perfectly suited for the work. She left telling me she would speak to someone at work tomorrow when she went in for her shift. She didn't wait that long lol.
I got a call maybe 15 minutes after she left. She told me she'd talked to the co-ordinator and I was pretty much in. They said instead of doing the 12 months of study as I worked, do my Success course, as it's only five weeks long and it should coincide with the time they would be advertising. Its a bonus to not go in uninitiated and I would at least have some good work experience and theory behind me if and when I start.
So, now I just wait. Course starts beginning of Feb, five weeks later - with any luck - I hope to have a job. Just depends if they like me enough to give me one. We will see.
Hope I didn't bore the pants off you all. So sorry, but I was mucho excited I just wanted to let you know what was going on. Drag you along for the ride so to speak lol. Now for a couple of questions my lovely lady friends asked about:
Linda - here are the tablets I take as I mentioned in my message to you, hon. Hope they help some if you decide to take them. They are - as you can see - specifically targeted for skin, hair and nails.
Kinzie - I would go for a beautiful warm, dark chocolate colour for my inspiration towel. I'm thinking I might take my own advice and buy some new ones too. We can buy the same kind!! lol SIZE SMALL!!! Whooo.
Gen, you know I've often thought of getting back into Pilates - Time and inclination is an issue for me right now. I'm so unfit you would beat me hands down lol. Gotta get it together and just do it (just like your t-shirt says!! Great words!)
Love ya's
Cara xx

Wow Cara, you have had a huge day! I totally agree with taking the job as you learn. What you learn in school and what you will learn in the real world will fill in the gaps. OUTSTANDING! Oh, and thanks for the fill info, I go in next week for mine, and I insisted on seeing the doctor this time instead of the PA. Right now every ounce I have lost has been of my own, The band has not helped at all yet. I am going in every 3 weeks right now.
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting day you had Cara.. Let us know if you think that fill made a difference, amazing .3 will put you at the sweet spot. and a HUGE bravo on your job training and future success.. what a great way to start the new year.. you go girl!
ReplyDeleteyou didnt bore me at all...I actually read everything word for word! Congrats and boy do things seem to be falling into place! That is awesome!
ReplyDeleteHi Cara
ReplyDeleteYou will so not regret going back to school. Having a job so soon is the most fantastic. You can do. You might see I am an RN, but went back to retrain in computers (with government money!) when I was 45. Shortly after grad, I went to a cocktail party and a lady there asked for my resume and the rest is history. I have a great job. It is one way that I can now pay for my surgery and travel. I always think that when one door is closing, another is just opening. We just have to see it. Caring for the elderly is a gift and not everyone is suited. When I read your writing, the caring comes through so I know you will love it and be great with it. And it will be easier now that you have lost weight. Good Luck.
I read every word with interest! I am so excited for you - I have to imagine the band has played a huge role in the confidence you know have to be taking on a new career. And as sweet as you are, the patients are going to love you. :)

Cara, it sounds like you'll be doing very good works-- I was an occupational therapist (well, I still am, just don't practice anymore) before I became an administrator and I did home care as a side gig. It was very rewarding and you will be wonderful. !!!

ReplyDeleteHow awesome! I agree with Kristin, sounds like destiny to me! Yeah for you!
ReplyDeleteCara,
ReplyDeleteI don't believe in coincedence. But, isn't interesting how if one aspect of your life improves, so do many other aspects? Maybe it's confidence that you can accomplish challenging goals, or maybe because you know you are looking GOOD! Whatever the case, I'm excited for your new prospects.
Oh, and I do have baby hairs! I promise! Everywhere! My hairdresser laughs at me, and assures me my hair WILL grow back in. I only lost 4 in the shower this morning!
