Some fireworks Aussie style! WARNING - If you listen - TURN DOWN THE SOUND... they come through quite loud - and that's not me squealing in the background but it is me doing running commentary lol.
I put a little 1 minute plus vlog of the fireworks we went to see last night in this post for anyone who didn't get to bring in the New Year with some themselves. I cut it down considerably so you just get the end which was spectacular!!!. It was a magical evening for us - and sometimes the unplanned nights turn out the best. We had HEAPS of fun!!! We started out by going to a meal at one of our local Chinese Restaurants. Piggy here wasn't able to eat due to going at it all day - what was with that? lol. I really went to town.. and it left me feeling uncomfortable all day and just brings it home to me again.. what NOT to do when you have a band......there's just not enough room for loads of food!!! It wasn't a big deal in the end - because to be honest I didn't organise the meal so I could eat (though the men did me proud lol) but more because I wanted to get dressed up, get out and socialise.
We ate then headed to meet up with friends at their house around 9pm, hung for a bit drinking coffee then around 10pm headed into town. There was a big shindig happening at Churchill park. This park is just beautiful. It sits on a vast expanse of beach and is the perfect setting for any big function this council deems fit to lay on us. Anyway, there was a band on - Diesel. You guys in the UK and US might not know of them - but for any good Australian who knows their music they are an Aussie staple. We had originally planned to just head to a quiet area of park about a third of a Km away and watch the fireworks due at midnight from there, but in the end I kind of led the pack as I wanted to bring the New Year in with noise and mess and fun and MUSIC. So we hung and watched Johnny Diesel (his real name is Mark Lizotte) for a good amount of time - then decided to get coffee. We zipped over to a little place across the road (saw Trevor from Masterchef again.. it was his restaurant) and proceeded to wait for a half an hour for some coffees to go which turned out to be cold.. shame shame! lol.. but it didn't matter. Not even cold coffee was going to dampen the night.
We headed down to the yacht club to nab a spot on the grass around 10 mins to 12 (our friends kids and mine hotfooted it to the beach straight down in front of us and sat on the shoreline half in the dark) and jagged the best spot in the house - right in front of where they were letting the fireworks off at the end of the jetty. Whooo. Already 2010 had started out great - we grabbed two parking spots easily even though parking was a nightmare for others... we avoided the booze buses (the police monitoring drink/drivers... though the whole event was heavily policed with zero tolerance and a 200 buck on the spot fine if caught with alcohol) and then managed to top it all off with a great pozzie for the fireworks.
We all ended up back at our place where we had a few drinks and laughs, finally getting to bed around 3am, which topped the night off perfectly.
Bring on 2010. It's going to be a good one!!!!!!

Me, ready for a night on the town. Ignore the spare tire effect around my tum - for a change it wasn't me but my now too big jumper runching around my middle!! lol

The view across the road from the park - the apartments looked amazing.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE live bands!!!!

Close up of Johnny Diesel - had to work around the mosh pit!!
This is a small section of the crowd kicking back
Post soon guys and girls and let us know how your NYE went....... ('cos I know Australia is ahead of you time-wise so yours is still coming!!) I can't wait to read all about it.

Those were AMAZING! (and loud :) ) My first fireworks of the year. I'm glad you've had a great day, and thanks for sharing your fireworks! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great time! We are still waiting to ring in the New Year but so far it's looking good as long as my DH doesn't fall asleep.
ReplyDeleteI will wait until tomorrow to watch the fireworks so I don't wake up my DH!! He told me to wake him up in time for midnight, but he was snoring so peacefully, that I just couldn't bear to wake him!
ReplyDeleteI am still working diligently on our taxes, so no NYE celebration for me! But that's ok, I haven't celebrated it in years!
Glad to see that you had a great time though!
Look at you Cara!! Looking amazing and I love your shoes... I want them!!
ReplyDeleteAnyhow: our new years was with a sick five year old, so we were home watching the telly.
You are looking so great -- and throw that sweater away if it gives you a spare tire!!! You deserve WELL FITTING CLOTHES. :-)
The fireworks looked mad! Glad to see you started the year off with a bang :-)
ReplyDeleteThe fireworks were awesome. They are illegal where I live, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCara - what a delightful new year's celebration you had. Our's was quiet, which is just the way I wanted it.
ReplyDeleteHappppyyyy New Yearrrrr!!!! Glad you had a blast! Looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Cara! Thanks for coming over and saying hi, I appreciate the encouragement. You look FANTASTIC -- and you must have an extraordinarily busy life with four (4!) boys. I imagine they're so proud of their mom.
ReplyDeleteSO FUN! Loved your fireworks video. I just added one measly fireworks pic to my NY Eve blog post - yours are way more fab!
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing! Skinny in those jeans! So glad your 2010 started out right!
Cara, I was reading Vanessa's blog (Dinnerland) & you were saying that you weren't sure what the time difference was from where you are to us.
ReplyDeleteWell, I am on the West Coast & you are 16 hours ahead of me & Vanessa in on the East Coast & is 3 hours ahead of me, so that makes you 13 hours ahead of her!
Hi Cara
ReplyDeleteJust read through your blog-lovely. The DASH poem is my favourite and when I read your intro realized it was the same one. I too believe that what we do in between birth and death is the important thing. I am also sorry about your mother--I too had some issues with my mom and sister and had to put them in a box (in my mind!) and place it on a shelf. I would only open the box when I had to visit and then back it would go. It helped me not think about all the crap. My mom died a couple of years ago and life if a lot better. Looking forward to following your blog. Happy New Year.
Awwwwwwwwwwww u look sooooo cute and I LOVE, LOVE the shoes! Looks like you had a blast!!!
