To all you girls who answered my plea for help yesterday about smashing through this plateau of mine - thank you, thank you. xx I got some really excellent advice and I absorbed it all, helping myself to what I want. Mainly, that is to keep mixing things up, keeping an eye on what I eat to get things up to 1200 calories and keep up my journaling. We will see what happens in the next week or so. I love the way you rally around when we (me) needs something from you. You're the best!!
I also noticed today when I logged in that I have some new followers. So to all you guys-n-girls who deem fit to read what I write - a huge, huge hello and and even bigger thanks. It wouldn't be half as much fun with this blog without those who are interested :) If you're new, introduce yourself via a comment - I would dearly love to hear from you. Don't be shy... I love to see new faces!
I performed my first 'Aged Care' act today lol. MOTH (Man of the House), Ragnhild (my mother in law) Riley and I went down to the beach today. Perfect, perfect weather for it. We finished up an hour of swimming by heading into town and grabbing a bite to eat. It was fun! The Florence Nightingale act came in when everyone was back home. I headed down to the corner shop to grab the Saturday paper and on the way back I passed this duplex and noticed an old man sitting half in half out of the garden bed out front. I smiled widely at him as I passed thinking he was kneeling doing some weeding.. and he gave me this stunned look. Something made me turn back.
I asked if he was ok? The poor old guy had stacked it - right onto a set of large, rather sharp rocks bordering the flower bed. His legs were pouring blood (old man skin - very papery) and he was shaking like a leaf after landing on one of the bigger ones, hitting his ribs on his back on the way down. I helped him up onto his feet and we shuffled into his unit (I had better get used to going into strange peoples house if I want to be a home carer!) Anyway, long story short, I patched up his legs, made him a cup of tea and hung around to make sure he was ok. We talked about how he was my first 'patient' (or is that client.. not sure yet) as I was about to undergo an Aged Care course starting soon and he wanted to know if he could be the first on my list. I thought that was sweet. Since his daughter was due in about an hour and half I left him rather unwillingly but only after giving him my phone number (I live just a few houses down) and my name with a promise to call me if the rib he fell on started to really hurt or he had trouble breathing.. That was hard. I really have this whole empathy for the elderly going on. I am going back in an hour to double-check on him. Hope he's ok.
Hope you all had a lovely Saturday!
See you again soon.

Awww you are so sweet - he was very lucky that you walked past him
ReplyDeleteI bet you made his day :-)
Thank God for people like you Cara, you are such a sweet heart.
ReplyDeletePlateau or not, you are looking fan-fricken-tastic!
Cara,
ReplyDeleteI meant to contribute to the last post but you've been too quick for me with your next one!
Sounds to me you're doing things right all in all, but as we get older our bodies don't operate as perfectly as they used to, and we need far more patience. With the band it's possible because the old you (as me) might have said - "blow it, I shan't bother then", but the new we can't say this because our band is there regardless...
So as two other bloggers have said
(1) try as an experiment not to weigh yourself for a week - and I know how hard this is!
(2) This too will pass.
And I'll add one of my own - stand back and review how brilliantly you've done. So what if it slows down a bit every so often - you want this too badly not to succeed eventually.

That gentleman was very lucky that you happened to walk by. So sweet of you to help.
ReplyDeleteI just posted a check-list re: plateaus in the comments of your previous post. You may find some of it useful.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
...and a second separate comment to say thanks God for people like you who have natural kindness and compassion. Last Sunday I developed a very quick and fierce kidney infection that reached my top pain threshold in 45 minutes, and being a Sunday, the emergency palaver took 6 hours before I had taken the first antibiotic and the pain in my back had subsided somewhat. After seeing an emergency doctor in Clevedon, Somerset, a town I don't know very well, John and I had to find the emergency chemist, and I had to try and concentrate on navigating, which was such an effort that by the time we got to the chemist I couldn't even stand, and John had to go in and get it for me, then find a bottle of water for me to take it with. I sat in the front seat of the car with the door open as I waited for his return, perspiring and I realised later, probably gasping audibly with pain, and a stranger (who turned out to be a nurse) came up to me most concerned, and asked me if she should call an ambulance. I thanked her and said it was all in hand. She stayed with me for a couple of minutes. That brief contact was so comforting, I can hardly explain it. John understood of course, but this nurse had offered kindness and sympathy to a stranger, and it made me feel less alone. I'm so sorry I don't know who she was so can't thank her.
ReplyDeleteYou're clearly the same, and God bless you.

Sweet Cara - what a lucky man you came by. I totally think your nature makes this career perfect for you. We all know how nurturing you are just by reading your writing.
ReplyDeleteWe'll deal with this plateau and break through. Maybe next week is our week??
Have a great weekend!
Cara, I think you have found an absolute perfect career for yourself. You are certainly patient enough for it. Now if we can just get you through that plateau..Sending scale movement waves your way!
ReplyDeleteOh I think it is more than luck that you were walking by - it is your true calling in life, and God is showing you the way. You are awesome.
ReplyDeleteSo jealous about the beach!!!! Just 5 more weeks till we head for Mexico, I can't wait!
I am plateau bound like you - seeing just a teeny bit of movement. I know you will bust through it any day now!
You have such a big heart, Cara! It's probably at least 50kg of what you weigh - hence the fact you're having problems losing. :)
ReplyDeleteAmy
