Have you ever looked at a gravestone? On it you will find the date a person was born - and the date that person died. In between is a dash. This small symbol signifies a persons whole existence. When it comes time for my dash to be chipped in, I want to know I lived a full and wondrous life.

Can you hear that?

No, nor can I. Peace reigns in the Kilian Household - at least for six hours. The kids have gone back to school. Yay. Now I can get stuff done around here again! lol

All is going well with the Calorie King food counting - so far. I duitfully log in several times a day and add into my daily food count. Only thing is.. I hadn't realised how hard it would be to actually eat 1200 calories of only good food. I cooked a really nice meal last night: Spicy tomato, olive and artichoke pasta and it was a hit. The kids mentioned it was a little warmish so maybe next time I will lower the chilli count. I tried to find a picture to add with the recipe but zero luck and trying to pinch it from the website attached to the page didn't help either. You'll have to trust me when I say it was YUM! lol I have posted it below.

Spicty tomato, olive and artichoke pasta

400g rigatoni pasta
2 cloves of garlic crushed
250g cherry tomatos - halved
1/2 cup (80g) kalamata olives
1 cup halved artichoke hearts (I just bought and drained a jar of them - it was quicker and tasted just as good)
1 tsp chilli flakes
2 teaspoons caster sugar
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1/3 cup (60ml) olive oil
60g baby spinach leaves
200g feta, crumbled (I used low fat feta)

Cook the pasta in a large saucepan of boiling water for 10-12 mins or until al dente. Drain and return to the pan. Add the garlic, tomato, olives, artichoke hearts, chilli, sugar, vinegar, oil, spinach and feta and toss to combine. Serves 4.

It was as easy as that. I used a wok and after throwing all the ingredients in a large silver bowl and mixing well, threw the hot cooked pasta on top and kept mixing on a low heat for about four minutes until the feta got a little pliable and voila. Done.

I tried to get through to Dr Couch's office this morning to bring my fill appointment ahead. I'm not due to go in until next Wednesday but I don't think I can hold off that long. Worst luck - no answer. I think he's at his Perth Office today so I will have to wait until he comes down here tomorrow. Strangely enough, since I made myself eat breakfast early (well, at normal breakfast time lol) both yesterday and today,  I now find I am now getting hungry much faster. It's only 20 past 10 in the morning (I ate b/fast at 7.45am) and I'm starvin' Marvin'. It sucks a bit. Logging the food and water count is actually really good. It's made me sit down and do some more research as to how much fat and protein and carbs etc I should be getting per 24 hours and the Calorie King tells me exactly how much I have consumed at the end of the day. I can either adjust up or down depending on how far out I was. AND it reminds me to drink, drink, drink (and exercise.. still haven't quite nailed this yet.

This is my menu for yesterday.

B. One egg on wholegrain toast, 1 tbsn of tom sauce - one coffee an hour later
L. A wholeweat wrap (very thin!!) with lite philly cheese spread (80% less fat) 2 slices of deli ham, 25 grams of lite cheese and sliced tomato (ouch got a bit stuck.. ate too fast lol and had to wait to finish.)
D. The above meal.. the spicy tomato, olive, and artichoke pasta. One cup.
Snack.  8.30pm One diet mousse - chocolate

I also managed 6 full glasses of water and another coffee to finish taking me to about 1150 calories. Not too bad for my first day effort, though I must try and get some fruit down too.  I got on the scales this morning feeling really light .. but no joy there. Still the same weight .. pffft.

Just before I go I wanted to have a shout out to Amy W. You are doing us proud, girl. She's lost 100 lbs.. yes .. 100!!!!! in eight and a half months. An amazing and incredible effort.  Well done, darl.

Till next time

  1. that recipe sounds yum...I have yet to try pasta, maybe I should give it a go before my next fill (which I haven't booked yet). Glad to hear that the school hols are over and house peaceful again (you need that quiet time :))

  2. For your snack have you thought of putting some fruit with your mousse as that will keep you fuller for longer - I like the diet choc mousse with chopped up strawberries, low in calories but delicious

  3. Yummo looks good. I've made similar pastas before (usually when I'm trying to get rid of everything in my fridge!!!)

I know what you mean about starvin marvin. I'm living with him. And he brought his friend "sweet tooth". Grrr... Just holding on to Friday...

  4. Yummy recipe! And the starvin' marvin' in the morning...same thing always happens to me. Any time I hold off on breakfast I end up eating less the whole day. If I eat earlier, I am just more hungry!

Sounds like you had a nearly perfect day of eating to me!
