Have you ever looked at a gravestone? On it you will find the date a person was born - and the date that person died. In between is a dash. This small symbol signifies a persons whole existence. When it comes time for my dash to be chipped in, I want to know I lived a full and wondrous life.

PB is not a dirty word.........

.....though it should probably read it's dirty WORK!

Calling out to experienced Bandits... please I need your help. This last fill of mine has really bumped up my restriction....... and how. Yesterday, I had so much trouble eating... and at first I thought it must be because I had overindulged on Saturday. So I decided to be really good and eat light but even this wasn't working. I started the morning - about 10am - with two organic eggs. Just eggs nothing else. I ate them ok but then spent the next 45 minutes PB'ing the lot back up. It even got past that stage where I was just spitting up and I had a full on blech-fest mini vomit session. Then about four hours later I tried sardines and tomato on crackers and same deal though to a lesser extent. I just couldn't hold anything down. I ended up having a protein drink for dinner, which was good. Filled me up and did the trick. (None of this helped on the scales though - figures lol. I'm just not winning there.)

This morning I tried the eggs again, this time with a little bit of ham on the side. It was slow going though and when I had finished, I felt like I had eaten a four course meal. Does this mean that whatever I think I should have, maybe I should halve it?? Because for lunch I made two cruskits  - with the sardine and tomato -  (I seem to be craving the sardines lol) and I only made it through three quarters of the one. I gave the other to MOTH (Man of the House.) I had a little spit-up but it took about 45 minutes for the heavy, almost stuck-like feeling in my chest to subside. Water goes down just fine as does any other liquids. It's the food I'm having trouble with. Maybe I need to eat even slower??? (though I'm concious of it and taking it reaaaal slow..) or maybe smaller bites? Again I'm concious of it and are taking little ones ... but this feeling every time I eat solids is weird and a bit disconcerting. I don't think I'm over-filled.. I only have 6mls (or cc's) in my 10 ml band.

I guess my question is... if these kinds of foods are hard to tolerate, then what is it you eat?? That's what I really need to know. What other kinds of food do you have when sliced tomato and crackers are seemingly off the menu.. (or are they?) I think I will try them again ... this time halving my bite size and doubling my chews.

Any help you guys can throw me, I would surely appreciate.

  1. Sorry Cara but it sounds to me like you are overfilled - I don't know that is just my opinion

are you taking tiny bites and chew chew chewing?

  3. Cara,

I am in the same boat as you! but only have 3.5 in a 10ml band! I have to eat real slow and chew everything 20 to 30 times to make sure I don't bring it back up. I too have issues with eggs for some reason, some days I can stomach them other days no hope in hell!

I have been tossing in some 98% fat free salada biscuits if I get hungry between meals - usually I put lite smear of margarine and vegemite and lite Craft sliced cheese. Seems to go down ok for me!

    Anyway all the best!

  4. Hi Cara,

This last fill (now have 6.25mls) has seen me eating really mushy/wet stuff for a week and I have only been able to eat cruskits and tomato this week. It's slow going but I can get through one maybe two cruskits. I finally have the restriction I have wanted.

Hope it settles soon for you.

  5. Hi Cara,

I just have to ask - what the heck is a Cruskit? I like the name.

No advice from me, I have 4 ccs in my 10 cc band and last night ate an entire burger (with really skinny bread, but still). Not much restriction at all.

This sounds tough, I hope the band settles down and you are more comfortable.

  6. Cara,
From my own experience alone, I'd say that provided you can drink liquids and stuff like optifast, it's worth hanging on for a few days, because you'll come to no harm.
Trouble is - your brain starts to work out that it's been starved of solid food, and despite your delight as the scales start to come down, you'll get head hunger (plus sub-consciously back away from the prospect of PBing) and start to eat easyband food - chocs, ice-cream, etc - which will slow down the weight loss.. and then you'll feel sooo fed up that you've got tight restriction yet seem unable to lose weight any faster.
    That's the stage I'm at!

  7. Cara,
I'm glad you have real restriction, but I guess you just need to make you don't go to slider foods. I'd say give it a few days and if you're still struggling get a tiny unfill. You don't want to throw up a lot and hurt your band. I know it must be hard because you want the restriction so much and don't want to risk having too much taken out.

  8. Cara - when I was that full, I could only manage one egg. Sometimes scrambled, it would get stuck. Never had a problem with poached or fried though. I would cut your portions in half and try that (measure, measure, measure - maybe I should listen to my own suggestion LOL) first.

If you get to the point where liquid has trouble going down, call the doc's office bc you are too full! Be careful and monitor it all... You can always call and ask them! Good luck!

  9. With a really tight restriction, I think crackers are a no-go. This is when you really have to do protein firsts...so no crackers. Also, after your really bad PB/throw up, I garuntee you were swollen and/or irritated. If I have a really bad episode, it takes about 24 hours for the swelling to go down.

  10. I'm a baby bandster but I think Amy, Sarah Lonicera and Linda are right. Give it a few days, let the swelling go down and go for the protein.

Sheesh, it seems like one minute we're all in bandster hell wishing for restriction and then you have restriction and it comes with a whole new set of problems!

I hope the swelling goes down soon!

  14. I was just about to send you a message after your comment on my blog but I see here you've got some great words of wisdom already!

I struggle with eggs in the morning so tend not to have them until after lunch. I usually have a yoghurt in the morning. I know several bandits have protein shakes that you could try if you're worried about protein. I tend to get the delay PB too. I'll be chewing slowly and eating, feeling fine and then 30mins- 1hr later get really uncomfortable. Don't know why this is!

If you do PB I recommend not eating anything at all for a few hours afterwards - even if you feel better. Your stomach and pouch will likely be swollen and this will give you even more restriction!

    Anyway hope that helps!

    Em :)
